What is TN Strong Families?
As part of Governor Lee's TN Strong Families initiative, the Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) is collaborating with the Department of Children's Services (DCS) to offer support to children experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in state custody or at risk of entering state custody.
The TN Strong Families HealthCare Reimbursement Account (HRA) allows children and their foster families to use program funds for IRS-qualified healthcare expenses. Administered by Inspira (formerly, Payflex), the HRA can be accessed using the card to cover out-of-pocket medical costs or through reimbursement for claims based on an itemized receipt.
Eligibility for the program is limited to children experiencing intellectual and developmental disabilities currently in state custody, and referrals must come from the Tennessee Department of Children's Services. The ISC assists families in managing the HRA benefit, with a $20,000 expenditure cap across the calendar year. Unspent funds cannot be carried over to the next plan year.
